The All Stars are a group of session musicians who have played along side most of the big names in the music industry. From Sir Paul McCartney to Kylie, Robbie Williams and Massive Attack.

Pacifico Blues recently played at a party in the Hard Rock Cafe London, backing soul legend Jocelyn Brown. I was asked to edit together a little promo for the band by Mick Walker who filmed the event. This was a great little project to work on, I only wish I was there to see the band play!

Cappuccino studios’ first feature Starring Robert Stone and Danny Sunley

I’m pleased to announce the release of the You’re Fired!! Trailer. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s finally here! You’re Fired!! is the debut feature from Cappuccino Studios, starring Robert Stone, Danny Sunley, Helen Mutch and Katerina Gouskos.

One night in June, a man; a milkman is murdered in ‘cold milk’. Shot in the kitchen of his lover’s house, as she unknowingly enjoys a cigarette upstairs in bed. It was also a very strange night for three very different individuals.

Eddie (Robert Stone) – A bouncer is ‘let go’ from his employer,  Billy (Danny Sunley)  a ’sport-hating’ journalist quits after a contra-ton with the towns Rugby captain and Naomi (Helem Mutch) a girl with a seemingly perfect life, is jilted at the alter. These series of coincidences would change their lives forever….

As the three drown their sorrows and meet for the first time, Naomi slams back the vodka shots as Billy tries to console her, and Eddie tries to talk his way into another form of employment with Billy. A private detective agency.

The following morning, nursing hangovers they get their very first customer…….

3D Post House Hotknife animated the ident’s in 3D Studio Max based on storyboards and creative direction by Steve Gilbert. On completion of the animation my job was to create background and sound design for each of the videos, with the rough passes being put together in Final Cut, and then exported to Soundtrack Pro for Final Mastering. This was another one of those projects that was great to work on right from the start. Enjoyed myself immensely.

Designs where all produced in Illustrator and animated in After Effects, with Iron man, Spy games and Mark Coleran’s work in mind.

Brief

Myriad “Numbers” was created as an internal communication video set to educate the company as a whole about how they operate. Myriad are a big, expanding communications company their facts and history are simply mind-boggling. Unfortunately, very few people within the business recognize this and the big contribution Myriad makes in to the market – which they are part of.

With this in mind the brief was to create an engaging film which not only was fun and upbeat, but also to showcase the facts and figures Myriad provide to the communications industry, but also the company itself.

Style

With a long list of numbers and figures, the challenge was to keep the film interesting and exciting…

One huge brain-storm later and few more lists, a scripted sequence was complied and designer Pete Rix went to work creating a simple clear style, which gives the film it’s aesthetic.

During this stage, based on Pete’s early designs an animatic was made to gauge rough timings and pace, ready for animating. Steve Gilbert and myself then went to work in After Effects and Cinema 4D until completion of the final sequence.

Development

Developing each of the personas into a sequence which would flow from one to the next, making the film easy to follow. Several storyboards where then created to present the scenarios working along side each other. From an early stage it was decided using live action would prove to be very costly and using a 3D animation style would be more cost effective.

The storyboard was then animated to get rough timings for each scene and where given to a 3D house who then developed the scenes as wire-frames ready for the client to approve.

Animation Development

Once each scene was approved for style, texturing and colouring, the rendered 3D files where then compiled in after effects and graded. Final stages included adding a voice over and a suitable soundtrack that wasn’t to over powering.

Directors Cut

As with most creative projects the original ideas and concepts sometimes get stripped down to thief bear minimum due to budget constraints or lack of time to completion. Due to some of these restraints The Cloud texturing process was limited and the figures where not animated fully. To get around this it was decided from an early stage to use silhouettes separating these users from the 3D world. This is not to say the final film didn’t answer the brief.
